UNDERWOOD PARK

For this design exercise, I was asked to design a simple viewing platform for an area of Underwood Park that resonated with me. This area of the park had remnants of mima mounds, which indicate a historic prairie. Using that background information as inspiration, I chose to envision this area as a prairie once again with a viewing platform that follows the existing circulation paths.

Before rendering a plan I composed a collage of photos of the existing site to convey the mood

Master Plan
A HOME FOR HABITATS

For this design exercise, I was challenged to design an interpretive space that provides insight into a part of the environment that often goes unnoticed within my neighborhood. I live in a neighborhood full of row townhouses, so I chose to design an empty lot in the center of the neighborhood. The design is composed to provide habitat for species that have been pushed out due to the construction of my neighborhood.

By elevating the main walkway, access to appreciate these species isn’t completely cut off, but still gives the habitat room to breathe.
